Take aways

During the project we have learnt a lot of things. Here are our take away messages for you. We thought of key words and placed them like fruit on a tree. Discover our harvest by clicking on the terms.  We suggest you start reading from the roots.

Multilingualism

Multilingualism

Our method accommodates participants with different languages and enables them to use their diverse repertoires. Creating movement with the app helps bridging differences and misunderstandings.

Diversity

Our method is suited to bring together people with different backgrounds, paths, perspectives and horizons of experience. What may cause misunderstandings in verbal exchanges fit naturally into a joint creative process that builds on each other's differences.

Diversity

Interculturality

Our method is suited to understand other cultural experiences and positioning that emerge from different traditions of family and in daily life. They meet and enter into verbal, visual and creative dialogue in the workshops.

Interculturality
Collaboration

Collaboration

Our method is suited to invite collaboration in welcoming and safe spaces and enables people to negotiate different perspectives and overcome disagreements.

Process

In our method the process counts more than the product. It is in the context of the making that ideas meaning and interpretations emerge.

Process

Objects

Our method has objects at its heart. Objects and materials can suggest a story and help finding a common theme without struggling. Objects don’t judge, but they can lead the way and suggest the next move in the film.

Objects
Horizontal Interactions

Horizontal Interactions

We base our method on the principle of horizontal interactions. This means we regard and treat everyone as equal, not putting ourselves into a particular role or position. We share personal stories, show our own vulnerability and create a space in which participants feel safe to reciprocate our model

Spontaneity

Spontaneity

Creating a stop motion animation with the app invites spontaneity and spontaneous creation often works better than meticulous planning. We found that story boarding was not required or even necessary.

Proximity

Proximity

Stop motion animation making can be a deeply immersive process, "people get into" the creation of their story, thereby they also get closer to each other.

Distancing

Creating a stop motion animation helps to take distance from one's own difficult, painful or emotionally challenging experiences, or the experiences of others.

Distancing
Children taking the lead

Children taking the lead

Our method creates a space that allows children to br heard and seen, to work alongside adults and often taking themselves the lead in a film making project.

Working across generations

Working across generations

Our method invites families and people of different ages to work together well and to respect the life experience of children, young people and adults.

Connection

Our method enables people to connect with each other. This includes people who have not met before, as well as those who know each other well. Our workshops offer a space where people can learn new things, from others and about themselves, through creating together.

Connection
Empathy

Empathy

Our method teaches us to be open and attentive to others, to listen without judging and to speak without being judged. We feel respected, seen and understood through the shared experience of animation making. It teaches us to value the work of other animation creators and builds empathy towards them.
